96 sc300 155k miles, car has a poor/no maintenance history, car has CEL and was misfiring on #4... unsure how long... distributor cap replaced and wiring as #4 was fried.
Finished full 120k maintenance on Engine:
-oil change (greddy filter)
-at transmission fluid drained and replaced
-new distributor cap, wires,
-new spark plugs
-timing belt done (gates high performance)
-cam gears replaced (tomei adjustable),
-hydraulic tensioner
-water pump
-thermostat
-harmonic balancer replaced
-valve cover gaskets
-camshaft seal
-crankshaft seal
paid a licensed mechanic to do the work, engine runs perfect, idles steady under 1000, currently NO CEL. Only issue is that it runs extremely rich... I took a whiff of the exhaust fumes and nearly felt nauseous as it was almost like directly inhaling premium fuel from the pump nozzle...
Attached is a picture of the timing, they match up so I’m stumped and the mechanic is unsure why she’s running rich...
could it be that because it was misfiring and running on 5 (for however long) that the injectors are completely soaked? Leaky injector? Injector o-ring?
A quick easy check may be to inspect the ECU to see if there is issue with corrosion on the board.
I had a similar issue with strong smell of unburnt fuel coming out of the exhaust. In the end, it was an issue with bad ECU. I bought one from @TaninAuto , and swapped it with my ECU, and all is well with the air/fuel mix.
