Default loud fluttering in air ducts at highway speed

I had the '95 on the highway the other day and suddenly heard a loud noise that sounded like I was dragging something. I thought maybe the engine splash shield had broken loose, so I pulled over and took a look underneath but all was good. Nothing out of place in the engine bay (like the fan hitting something plastic), so I started back up.

The noise was still there when I got going, but listening more closely, it seemed to be coming from the air ducts. I also noticed that it was speed dependent, getting louder the faster I went. Below 60 mph, it wasn't too noticeable. Above that, it sounds like strong wind buffeting a tarp.

I couldn't find any info on what it might be, and a visual inspection hasn't revealed anything amiss. The cowl area looks okay. Would it be a blend door, maybe? It could just be something got sucked in and needs to be fished out.

Actually, it may be unrelated to the air ducts. I spotted something suspicious... It looks like the front of the fuel line cover (along the driver's side frame rail) is hanging down. That was probably vibrating against the floor board, and with minimal interior sound deadening, it can sound like it's coming from anywhere.

I'll get 'er jacked up and see if the cover is broken or just came loose. As I recall, the noise started right when I crossed a lane line on the highway. Maybe I hit a trucker's tire fragment? I didn't see anything or hear a thunk, though.

Same thing happened to me, I was driving quite fast and thought maybe my wheel bearing or something suddenly got a problem. I looked underneath and found out the fuel line cover was coming off. Just break off the cover or cut it.

That sounds like the same thing. It sure makes a racket! I only looked under the car from the front at the time and couldn't see it. It was only when I was looking at the car from the side, 20' away, that I saw it hanging down a couple inches. That viewing angle would have put me in the center lane of the highway...

I've got a transmission mount waiting to be installed, so I'll probably tackle both together when I have time.

It turned out the front plastic nut/washer thingy broke off at the base. I borrowed a less essential one from further back. We'll see if that quiets the racket next time I have it on the highway.

My car is doing this exact same thing, I can't hear the flapping noises until I have the windows up and the radio off. And it only happens at speeds above 45mph, though it does continue below 45mph when I'm decelerating. I too thought it was the plastic fuel line cover as well, so I zip tied that thing on tight, no movement now. But that flapping noise is still there! I put the car up on jackstands and nothing looks out of place, I checked the cat heat shields and they're all on tight. It's driving me crazy. All the splash shields are in good shape and nothing is loose. I'm at a loss as to what's causing this noise.

Mine was definitely the fuel line cover. Given what you've done to eliminate under-car possibilities, I would have to revert to my first guess of something trapped in the air ducts.
