Default Help! Sunroof Stuck...

So today after work I opened my sunroof to tilt, but when it opened the motor sounded like grinding gears so I closed it back. I got home and tried to open it again (slide) but it only moved so far then started grinding. I pulled the motor out and it turns fine, none of the teeth on the motor and sunroof gear are chipped or broken. I got the sunroof to fully close by using a screwdriver and pushing the gears until it closed. Asked my grandfather about it and he said something in the motor could be stripped and would only do it under pressure. Is that true? Has this happened to anyone else and how did you solve it? I unplug the switch just so I won't accidently open it.
