Default temp gauge not functioning in 98 sc400

I recently bought a 98 sc400 and the temp gauge was not working. The previous owner told me he replaced the coolant temp sensor with a bolt, but he replaced something else. I have a picture of the clip that goes on to it. It is right below what is actually the tempt sensor. If you could just let me know what this part is actually called i would greatly appreciate it!
