Default Does our orig. key affect a new ECU?

Tried searching this question with no luck. I read another poster that had put in a used ECU and was not working and wanted to know if it was because the ECU did not recognize the orig. key? Dont remember the answer, but looks like I may soon be in the market for an ECU, and need to know.

The chip in the original key is only for remote unlock, not for the ignition.
