Object Attached to my Airbox
Hi,
I have a 2000 SC400, and I've been wanting to do a BFI for a while. I got my hands on a 98 or 99 airbox I believe (wan't to keep one in case I ever want to switch back) ,but something's a little bit different on the 2000.
At the rear of the box, there's a thing with a hose , and a plug attached to it. (pictures attached)
What is it? I thought I would just relocate it somewhere else, but there's a tube at the bottom (can't see in the picture) that goes into the airbox.

Btw, I found out what it is. It's a vacuum valve for the EGV.

why did doing the BFI cost you $130?? idk if the airbox is different in later models but on my 92 SC400 it cost me 8 dollars for a piece of corruflute board (or watever it's called) and some cardboard for templates. mine seems to be clean so far, but its pollen season now so we'll see how long that will last.

I have the eBay BFI on my '99 and have absolutely no complaints. I cant say how much HP or MPG I gained from it as a have a number of other mods that would affect it, but it sure does sound nice when I step on it!

No doubt it sounds better, that's the biggest benefit I've seen lol, but as far as actually improving anything... I can't really say. The reason I bought the Ebay kit is because the guy worked really hard on it, created multiple versions, and I wanted it to look as clean as possible which it does. I also use OEM Toyota Air Filter as Project Soarer claims it's the best air filter period.
Took these pictures earlier showing 3 month build up of dirt/debris, and I've been cleaning it every 3 months just because. I don't like dirt building up in there like that...
A 2000 SC4 is a rare beauty, and I would keep it as it sits completely stock except for maybe wheels, and audio upgrades. That's just me though.

^ Yikes, did you take that offroading or something? I've had mine installed every since I got my car, and took the cover off for the first time in December to install HID's, and it was nearly perfectly clean. I guess it depends what city you live/drive it and the conditions there.

Ok. mine wasn't that bad.
One reason I bought another airbox was so I could revert it back to the original if I ever wanted to, but I don't mind stock. Gains aren't really noticeable with an air intake anyways, and I'll just get some mufflers to make the car sound better.
Guess I have a 98-99 BFI air box for sale now
So far the car has wheels, shocks, lowering springs, and an x-pipe. I think I'll stop with the mufflers ,and maybe in the future, a ls brake swap. (for my track use) , but everything I will do to the car will be reversible.
