So I've been reading alot of posts about the bfi and snorkel removals and such and I was thinking, what if I just cut back the snorkel a lilttle bit and attached some kind of ducting from it to the big opening next to the fog light. It sounds good in theory, but I've never seen where anyone has tried it that way... Whattya think ? I live in Cali and modding the airbox is taboo, but I figure I could legally get around that by just attaching something to the snorkel instead and leave the airbox stock in the hopes for a few more ponies for my '98 SC400.....
The eBay BFI works this way. There's ducting that you install under the headlight and into the cut open box. Works and sounds great!
Cool, I think I'll see what I can come up with tomorrow with what ever scraps I have laying around. If the BFI is good for 18-20 horses with the airbox cut open, I'm hoping this will give me 5-10 with a ram air snorkel, or just better throttle response..
The BFI is more than just a cut open airbox. You actually slide down the plastic in your front bumper, it creates a scoop for air that does a ram air effect. I remember reading that a direct snorkel didn't work as well. BFI is where it's at.
Thanks for the tip Clean 400. I was trying to keep it CA legal by not messing with the box itself, but it sounds like ti might just be a waste of time..
