Default Weird noise on start up???? Added a video

1993 SC300 Auto

Car is pretty much stock. When I start the car for the first time in the morning or after its been sitting it makes a metal on metal contact sound. I thought it was my power steering pully. and not the case swapped out the whole pump and still got the issue. Im stuck!!!! o yea as soon as the car has warmed up i can turn it on without making that noise. so im just a little worried. Can anyone help?

Is this noise happening while you start it? might be the teeth grinding on the flywheel or might be the starter itself.

yes. but i wont do it after the car has warmed up. if i shut the car off after that first start. lets say i let it run for 5 minutes for the first time of the day in the morning. i can shut off the car turn it back on and it wont make the noise anymore until i let the car sit. which would be after i get off work i start the car nd makes the same noise. very strange

The accessory belt squeak can sound like metal on metal squealing. Might want to make sure your belts are in good shape and at the proper tension, otherwise it'll just get worse over time. It's a typical symptom to only do this with a cold engine on startup.

just did the timing belt nd accessory less than 6 months ago. i did notice the timing tension pully was loose though. tighten it up but not to much spring action left to it. could it be that? im about to do a full gasket set on the car. im also wondering if its the clutch fan? its like a ball bearing kind of sound if you can. i tried covering my ears everytime i start the car. sometimes i think im going to throw a rod through the block.

ah I didn't think of the belts and the pulleys. Yeah it could probably be that, make sure the bolts are tight and the belt is in good shape. Some belt conditioner might be good even if the belt looks slightly worn out.

Belt and pulleys are good. just a little freaked out. i know the sound of rod knock and some other noises. but on rev the car doesnt make the sound. only on start up. which is why i find it strange. engine still runs strong. like stated before im about the break down the engine for the gasket set. ill be tightening most if not all bolts to spec. paying extra attention to rotating assembly. anything other suggestions ?? appreciate the tips guys

Lift up the hood and have a coworker or friend start the car inside the cabin while you're looking under the hood. Repeat the process to determine the location.

Heres a video clip of the sound. Pay close attention to the start up.

hmmm, i have heard of piston slap happening on cold start up but wouldnt be present on revving the engine.

Piston slap occurs when the bore of the cylinder has worn down enough to allow clearance between it and the piston causing the piston to actually slap back on forth in the cylinder on a cold startup. It usually becomes less noticeable once it has warmed up and everything has expanded reducing the clearance.
