Engine lag, electrical smell, low idle and jerky shifting.
I was driving my 1992 SC400 last night and at a stop light I went to take off I heard what sounded like a pop, smelled some an electrical smell and the engine would rev up but sounded strange. It seemed like I had lost most of the power. The car will drive but the engine/exhaust sounds different, it revs up to around 4000 RPM before it will shift and then when it shifts it is jerky. When driving and taking off there is a great lag compared to before. The check engine light is not on nor is the traction control light.
Thank you in advance for all your help,
David

Check all your links, vacuum lines, sensors and so on. Popping you heard could have been the timing belt slipped and now is out of time. This is the loss of power possibly. Is it hard to start now or no difference? Any signs of leaking fluids more than before the issue? Where did the noise come from? Front or back ir which side or under the car? Trying to eliminate the possibilities David. Any more precise details?
It starts just fine and runs but not very well. I checked the fuses under the hood but have not in the cockpit yet I unhooked the negative terminal trying to reset the computer but the issue is still there. It felt like the pop came from the front passenger side not positive though. There doesn’t seem to be any fluid leaks. I was looking at things in the dark last night but when I get home today I am going to take a more serious look at it. I will update this thread once I have done that.
I know this is nothing like an SC, but it might help...

I would like to add there are only 89K miles on the car. After getting home and looking at the rest of the fuses all were fine. I looked for a fluid leak and did not see anything. I started it up and at first it was only idling around 300 RPM but after I gave it some gas it leveled off at 500 RPM. Thanks everyone for your help.
