1JZ VVT-i running problems...
Hi peeps,
So just yesterday I noticed a bit of a problem with my car...
Ever since I have bought it (~4 months ago), the car has had a little pop in the exhaust on idle - it was hardly worth paying attention to so I ignored it.
But now I have noticed when I push the pedal to the metal in second gear, when it gets to around 6000rpm (-ish; maybe a bit less), the exhaust starts to pop, and I lose some power. Imaging wringing some bubble wrap, that's how close together the pops are sounding.
Now I haven't tried to diagnose myself yet, but my first thought was to spark plugs, because I haven't changed them while the car has been in my possession, and before that the car was driven less than 10 times in 2 years.
As of right now, the car only has a 3 inch turbo back, but is otherwise stock (engine-wise).
I'ma try that first, but if any of you have any suggestions, just yell out.
Peace out.

Whats up Hexxle - I made the same mistake -
I would definitly check the plugs first. Also check the coil packs for cracks. If your coil packs and plugs are good, then maybe you have a Boost leak. Is your check engine light on?

That "pop" sounds like what my 1j VVTi was doing when I had a minor ignition misfire at idle. I replaced the plugs with OE twin ground electrode type and new boots/wires, problem solved.
