At cold start, 4-5 hours sitting there my car will start up and rev to 2k and spike down to 1200 then spike up to 2k and so forth until put into gear. car drives normal and after warmed up will start like normal. help?

My first guesses would be a vacuum leak, the MAF sensor, the IACV, or something with the EGR system.

Does this continue when your car is warm? Or only at start up?

My guess would be TPS or MAF. Has it ever stalled? If so, did it ever run a cel?

This happened to me before and I changed the MAF and cleaned the IACV. It never happened again.

only on startup and randomly. it will start up like normal or start up revving on its own. no never stalled. RPMs never drop below 1000. unplugged my iacv and it will do the same thing. revv high. plugged it back in and ran normal. i plan on cleaning out the throttle body with my cam seal change. and see if that works.also remove and clean the iacv.

Clean the tip of the iacv, dont clean the entire thing unless you plan on putting on new bearings.

you either have a big vacuum leak or the IACV needs replaced (or cleaned).

EGR works only while cruising. If egr opened during start-up the car would stall.
