Exclamation Transmission won't go all the way in

so i'm putting in a new clutch and a new used W58 from the same year as mines, got the inner shaft to slide in the splines on the clutch disk but for some odd reason it's not going all the way to where to meets the engine. i tried taking the clutch off and hammering the pilot bearing as far as i could, reinstalled everything but the transmission still so go all the way in. i've done clutch jobs on my car a few times before but this time it's a really big pain in the ***. any ideas?

Spin the crank pulley and try again. Sometimes the splines don't match up or transmission shaft spins while removing the transmission.
