Idk but the engine may not be timed right and it must not be getting fuel. I got it to run for the longest yesterday by spraying starter fluid in the intake.... and when I did I heard a like metal on metal tap sound, like a few taps in a row then nothing then those sounds again.

Okay for an engine to run we need air fuel and spark. so you need to check all three things. also check the timing on the engine these are i believe interference engines so if its timed wrong..kaboom! bye valves! it sounds like if you are spraying ether into the intake it and tries to run you probably have a fuel issue. check the injectors and the fuel lines for any clogging aswell.

Definitely possible but just check the fuel filter first
to be sure its not that. Take it off and try to blow through it to see if its clogged.

For sure check the timing belt is on right if the filter and pump don't do the trick. Some how the belt jumped a tooth after hitting a speed bump to hard on my wife's car and same symptoms you got. The mechanics were baffled for days trying to figure it out.

Rear seat removal and you can see the access panel for fuel pump behind the rear seat back. Also Fuel Pump ECU info!

Fuel Pump removal instructions from Lexus

Here is one for the fuel filter. Sounds like you better replace that too:

http://planetsoarer.com/fuelfilter/Fuel_Filter.htm

You might want to clean the sender for the fuel level too.

If you want to replace the fuel tank, check this out. DO NOT USE FOR FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT

Notice when he finally gets the tank out he shows you the silver fuel pump access panel that is behind the back seat!

Good Luck and let us know what happens.
