Default Need help ASAP EMISSIONS FAIL.

Ok guys I need some help on this problem I am having. I can't pass emissions, the only thing that I fail on is NOX, everything else passes flying colors. I have tried all the tricks to get it to pass and it still wont pass after three tries. Any info would be helpful or if you know of anything I should do or check. I know that the o2 sensor and the Cats have a vital role in the nox but I just dont understand how they could be bad if everything else passes flying colors.

Recent things Ive done/tried:
-Tune up (spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter)
-Seafoam(vacuum)
-Guaranteed to pass
-Pull egr off, soaked it in brake cleaner and cleaned it

Things Ive been told to try
-Retard timing
-Blow the car up
-Shoot myself

My nox readings are 2400 and the limit is 773. Would retarding timing change it that much?

Update, I retarded the timing as much as the distributor would move and cleaned out the vsv vacuum thing(sits right above egr) and it drop my number quiet a bit but not enough. Any other suggestions?

Move to NY where they don't care about your car unless it's OBD2?

Sorry, may need to get a new cat. I'm not sure how else you can easily pass.
Maybe richen the tune if you have any engine management in place? It would be a bandaid that would screw up other readings but would reduce NOx.

We just put a Obd1 B series civic with a turbo through emissions by putting 3 gallons of e85 in with about a half tank of regular gas. It was way over on hydrocarbons. It passed with flying colors. Then we drained the fuel out and disposed of it. The easiest way to drain the tank is to pop the fuel return line off and run a new 3/8 or 5/16 hose into a fuel container with the car running. It will drain the tank pretty quickly. Prior to the E-85 we actually installed two converters, put in stock injectors and removed the hondata and ran a sohc ecu and it would not pass. Hope this helps. I dont know what your setup is but you might want to figure out what is "really" wrong with the car in the future if its a stock car.

I would try it but its hard to find e85 here, there is only a handful of stations in the atlanta area that have e85. I know e85 burns cooler, and I considered trying that but didnt know the effects it would have if i ran it in the car. Thanx for the input.

Short term? E85 is "safe" just to get you a passing grade.

The biggest concern would be how the lines and pump handle it, but like I said this should be OK for a single run.

yeah E-85 should be pretty safe short term. If you do not have access to E-85 in your area, you just need other forms of Ethanol, and these can be found at your local liquor store. Grab a few bottles of Everclear as it is almost pure ethanol, dump in tank, get emissions done and you should pass...well hopefully

Thanks,
Rick

Did you actually test anything or are you just guessing @ the problem.
I would start w/ testing all the EGR components before buying a cat.
