Default Fuel Pulsation Damper SC400

For those that have detailed knowledge of the fuel pulsation damper on our sc400's... There's a screw that is seated on the top of this part. The screw along with a washer move up and down, I guess as this unit pulsates the fuel... If the screw and washer had backed out completely and fell off leaving an exposed hole, what affect would this have on the unit functioning and could this cause the engine to stall?

FYI, the fuel pulsation damper is mounted on the fuel rail on the driver's side, the unit on the passenger's side is the fuel pressure regulator. The pcv valve hose lies almost directly above the fpd.
