Hey guys, trying to replace my valve cover gasket because it has a leak but it won't come off, it's on a 94 sc400 so I'm working on a 1UZ, so don't chime in with 2jz fixes lol.
I removed all 8 bolts that keep it in place, I'm trying to remove the driver's side one.
The only things I can think that can keep it in place is the pcv valve and that fact that I didn't remove the 12mm bolt which holds the oil dipstick tube to the engine, which I forgot.
Could those be the issue?
It won't budge, shakes the entire car before even moving.

I just did this a few days ago and it was pretty straight forward, Are you 100% sure all the 10mm bolts are out?

I remember when I did mine, there was something blocking the valve cover that you need to loosen the bolts but not completely remove it, if I'm not mistaken it was the bolts that hold the fuel rail in place. Quick guide you might wanna review;

Yeah I used that guide and the only things I think I missed was unbolting the fuel rail, remove the pcv valve itself from the valve, and the 12m bolt from the dipstick. I had to remember the guide by memory so those 3 things slipped out. Will try tomorrow.
It doesn't seem like the fuel rail would get in the way though, still, I'll remove the bolts.

The PCV wouldn't really make a difference cause its just attached to the valve cover. But another thing I remember that was on that side was the 2 fuel lines. Good luck.

I'll try and remove the fuel rail bolts, hopefully that's it.

Unless they are different from year to year I did not have to remove anything that had to do with the fuel rail or even un do the fuel lines for that matter as I just un bolted the 10mm bolts then grabbed the oil filler cap and gave it a good tug and it came loose then I snaked it out from there.
The whole job which was both sides r&r took 2-2.5 hours.

whenever something is hard to remove i always wack it around it's circumference with a rubber mallet. not a super forceful 'all your strength' kind of wack, but maybe "25%"? just let the weight of the mallet do its work. if you dont have a mallet, use a block of wood.

yea, its not going to be to easy to remove it. the heads been baked onto the block for a few years keep in mind.

Yeah, I just hit each corner with a mallet, and then pried off a corner with a flathead and it came off, thanks guys!
