Default First SC300 Experience

Hello everyone,

This is my first post as a Lexus Club member, so forgive me if I sound ignorant about my experience. First off, this is my first Toyota/Lexus ever. I purchased a 96 SC300 with 164k miles and at first I had to say I was a bit skeptical buying a car with so many miles, but I bought it anyways?? At first I was looking for a sports car that looks good and could be a “project car”. But after purchasing this car I really fell in love with it and became sort of compulsive with the type of upgrades/mods you can do to this car. With this said this is my reason for this post… I am so confused and anxious to do something to this car. Here are a few of my project thoughts (just not sure what order to do them in??)

Note: I don’t think I will be adding a Turbo??—Still thinking about it though?

1) Exhaust: I want upgrade the exhaust system, mainly because there is a rattle that comes from it. I am not the most mechanically incline person but it is embarrassing pulling up next to someone and you **** is rattling!! I got a quote for $450-600 to replace it with a cat back exhaust (using Magnaflow mufflers)—is this a deal or should I go elsewhere?

2) Intake/Headers: I can’t find any intakes under 200.00 and almost non-existing when it comes to the headers? Is there a manufacture that makes headers for this car?
These are the main points that I am focusing on write now. Can someone please point me in the right direction—I am so confused on what to do first!?!

Chris.

Exhaust pipes don't rattle by themselves. It's probably a heat shield, so get under there and find which one it is and pry it away from the pipe. Problem solved, zero $$.

Without adding a turbo I don't know if you're going to get much more power out of the 3.0. You can find kits for around $2k that include everything it takes to go boosted: turbo, manifold, downpipe, FMIC, etc. Otherwise you can make it louder but you won't be going much faster.

Thanks! this thing really drives me nuts! I will check it out this weekend. Also, I'm not opposed to turbo, just not too familiar with the whole set up??

With the money you could spend NA, around 1k or so and make 20hp, you could spend 2k and make like 150hp more
