Default First SC300 Experience

Hello everyone,

This is my first post as a Lexus Club member, so forgive me if I sound ignorant about my experience. First off, this is my first Toyota/Lexus ever. I purchased a 96 SC300 with 164k miles and at first I had to say I was a bit skeptical buying a car with so many miles, I bought it anyways?? At first I was looking for a sports car that looks good and could be a “project car”. But after purchasing this car I really fell in love with it and became so of compulsive with the type of upgrades/mods that this car offered. With this said this is my reason for this post… I am so confused and anxious to do something to this car. Here are a few of my project thoughts (just not sure what order to do them in??)
I don’t think I will be adding a Turbo??—Still thinking about it though?
1) Exhaust: I want upgrade the exhaust system, mainly because there is a rattle that comes from it. I am not the most mechanically incline person but it is embarrassing pulling up next to someone and you **** is rattling!! I got a quote for $450-600 to replace it with a cat back exhaust (using Magnaflow mufflers)—is this a deal or should I go elsewhere?
2) Intake/Headers: I can’t find any intakes under 200.00 and almost non-existing when it comes to the headers? Is there a manufacture that makes headers for this car?
These are the main points that I am focusing on write now. Can someone please point me in the right direction—I am so confused on what to do first!?!

Chris.

Welcome to CL and congrats on the purchase! We'll see you around the 1SC forums.

But since we're here, I would like to note that if you are trying to get power out of the car without a turbo, good luck. Exhaust and upgrading intakes does minimal power gains for the car. Where the 2JZ shines is a nice fat turbo.

Welcome to Clublexus man! I would say your price quote is on par for a magnaflow setup!

Welcome! I had 13 SCs, every type of it. If you just replacing the exhaust for the rattle and sound, yes, go for it, but don't expect much more power from them. I put intake, header, exhaust on my 97 5 speed, but didn't feel any gain from them. Your motor has high miles, so adding 3k turbo won't be an option for daily driven type. I would say go for a 1jz or 2jz gte swap will make noticeable gain. Search 1SC forum, there are tons of information for you. Good luck and enjoy the ride.
