Ok i will shine some light since I'm doing this to mine. 1uz to z33 trans
I'm using the flywheel from a toyota 4 runner 3vz (modded slightly) Clutch disc: nissan sr20 / 300zx / 350z etc.. all them will fit the input spline Pressure plate: mr2 turbo Throw out bearing needs a spacer (seems to release the clutch but i haven't driven the car yet) You need an adapter to fit the pilot bushing (very simple) custom transmission cross member (trans mount from a 300zx or 240sx is the easiest) Drive shaft: you will need a slip yoke from either a 350z or a nissan titan and have a shop either weld it to your oem drive shaft or make a new 1 pc Shifter assembly sits far back so you will need to cut it and re weld it about 4 inches ( or buy the custom bracket which $200) Im really interested in this and want to make sure this is something feasible in a weekend before I commit 100%. |

Reverse lock out requires the original shifter plate which didn't come with the trans I bought. I'm done with the swap and been driving it for a week and I doubt that you can engage reverse after fifth gear. Trans shifts great at any rpms but I am using the "cd009" version. For anyone that is not familiar its the revised version which nissan released in 2006.
I would not use anything from 2005 and earlier just as a precaution. Gearing is very short with the stock early sc400 differential. I might swap it with a late model sc400/gs400 I'm crusing 50mph at 2k rpms in 6th gear. But it does accelerate very quick. Very solid trans so far. I had the same problem with my w58 + 3.93 combo, had to move to a 3.26. I think a few other guys moved to the 3.26 also. I don't think the 3.73 would make that much of a difference. |
Correct me if I am wrong tho, wouldnt the R154 still be the most cost effective tranny to go with, because it sounds like the 350Z 6speed is still going to be pretty pricey by the time you purchase all the parts to do the swap and then sounds like I would still have to change out the rear on my 92 5-speed

Im going to try this swap next r154 is almost a 2k swap if im going to spend that i will at least shot for the 350z trans. Have any info on that dude that makes that bracket? I live in tampa fl myself and will try to pick that up.

Interested in this. Most people don't need the enormous torque-holding or expense of a V160.
Does anyone know what real world horsepower numbers the CD009 is capable of holding reliably? |

Sound Performance broke the trans when launching their 350z with slicks. They made around 1200hp at the dyno. I doubt anybody here would swap this 6speed instead of an automatic to do real drag racing.
I am only running the stock 1uz but I can tell you this trans feels very solid also shifts as fast as you can at any rpm. I've never driven a 350z before so I was hoping for the best. I will try to get some images together and start a new thread with info that may be important. |
Subscribing to this for future use.

Has anyone done this to a 2j or will i be the first? I am also wondering if any milling of the bellhousing due to the adapter being in place? ie adpater is x thick so mill x amount off trans to matxh?

With this tranny swap, will I have to change my rear end? I have a 92 SC3 factory 5-speed na-t. Motor is set-up to make 550ish whp but is limited by the weak w58 and fuel (I still need to upgrade my fuel system)
If I need to change my rear, what diff's can I use? Also, what needs to be done to the drive shaft, to make this work? Thank You in advance |
your going to have to use the 350z diff.
