Best deal on Specialty Service Tools?
I searched but did not find information in the Forum about where to buy a Toyota / Lexus special service tool 09990-01000 a.k.a. Checker Harness "A". Any suggestions? I am trying to run the factory diagnostics on the ECU in my 1993 SC300.
Thanks in advance,
Wade

Your looking for Toyota SPX. You'll have to call them to order, and they'll have to search to see if its even available to order.
This should be a sticky link.

No CEL. Mine suddenly cranks but won't start. I thought I heard a whir (electric motor spin-up) at time of failure. ECM/ECU is one possibility. Obviously, I am going to check the spark and fuel systems first. I suspect fuel because I associate that sound with a fuel pump.

On my 1993 SC300 the CEL and yellow Airbag light flash constantly with TE1&E1 jumped (I actually have the little tool that does nothing more than jump these connectors.) To the best of my recollection, it never did that before when it had not stored or thrown a code. I was going to start by testing the ground and wiring harness to the ECU. Then I saw where it was and started looking for the test harness.

FINALLY - won't start - RESOLVED: The TIMING BELT had SLIPPED
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to 93MBS, MegaMax and all of the incredibly helpful members!
I parked my 1993 SC300 in the garage one night and the next morning it would not start. It tried to run once and it continued to turn over nicely but it would not catch.
After checking the obvious, then replacing the ECU ...drum roll...it turned out the timing belt had slipped! Now, this is a new high end timing belt and there really is no excuse but that is what happened.
I did not need the new MAF, ECU. I returned the NOID injector test lights. However, the timing is spot on, the valve clearance is perfect, the fuel has never been cleaner or the octane higher, and the platinum plugs, high tension wires, distributor cap, rotor, PCV, etc. did not go to waste. I am outta the garage!
Kind regards,
Wade
