Default 1JZ and 2JZ turbo owners: open wastegate downpipe or NOT?

I was wondering was the pro's and cons are the open wastegate dump tube versus not open. I heard that it makes no difference in performance but a bit on the noisy side. If anyone can post some videos of theirs, that would be great. I am running a BW S366 with a custom 4 inch DP and a Tial 44m wastegate and an OPEN dump tube on my 1JZ. I haven't finished the build but wanted some advice to leave or not to leave while the motor is out.. Thanks for any input..

I got mine open, but I would like to hear one with the dump tube connected to the exhaust.

That's my thoughts too. Are people routing them into the downpipe? Or the exhaust? I want to hear some videos people. I know someone has to have one or two. :-)

I am working on my single as soon as i return stateside and my dump tube WILL be routed back into the exhaust about 1.5-2 ft down the pipe. I've been around a ton of cars with open down pipe and hate it unless it's a purely for the track. Interested in hearing the difference on the 1JZ though.

Get home safe man. I dont know if you are a enlisted, officer or a contractor, but get home safe. Thanks for the input so far. Still need some confirmation on the lengths and videos if anyone has any, with potential HP gains or not with it open..

If you route it into the DP then you can just run a e-dump right after the DP and have all the performance benefits of it being wide open at the flip of a switch, and back to normal luxury status the rest of the time.

Enlisted for now. Working on it and appreciate it. Ready to mess with the SC again.

when its routed back it just sounds like your exhaust gets like way louder in boost. im gonna route it back. i was thinking if someone was single exit and wanted dumped wg it would be cool to run a pipe all the way back into the second opening in the back.. like a ferrari.. mehh i like back into exhaust tho. its 2jzgte, single 70-72mm turbonetics, hks wastegate 50mm..

the open dump pipe is very loud. It probably sounds better when routed back to the exhaust, but you have to do it the right way or it could hurt your exhaust flow

My thoughts were how loud it was in the cabin. I want to be able to hear the BW spool and HKS BOV working.. Love the sound of that thing.. Anyway, I will leave it open for now, until my build is almost done and running. I might route it back into the exhaust after some time. I was worried about HP loss, that was my biggest concern..

it also depends on how much boost you are running. If you are running a low amount of boost on a big flowing turbo, the waste gate will have to divert more than if you were running a higher amount of boost. The more it has to divert the louder it gets.

From in the cabin, you will hear your turbo spooling up till you get to wastegate pressure, then in a few seconds your wastegate is going to be as loud or even louder than the sound of the turbo. Bov you can still hear fine.

Which makes buying that sweet, sweet sounding BW turbo, pointless.

Route it back in, you will love life.

Why the hell would anyone want to hear a controlled exhaust leak over the compressor?
