Why do you want to bypass the heater core?

Probably a leak at the heater core. If both these hoses go to the firewall, I think its been done.

If you look up a thread in this section. OLT did a very nice write up of replacing the heater core with an aftermarket part on ebay. Please take a couple mi utes to find it. Thread heading is something like " another olt diy" or something of the sort.
Good luck

OLT did a DIY on the control valve, not the core.
