1jz-gte single build thread
So its been a long time coming, and i finally started buying my new single turbo setup, the stock twins died, they started to smoke pretty bad while i was at idle after driving it. So what better time then to replace them with a single turbo setup since theres no where i can buy new ct12as stock turbos . So far i got a precision 67mm, with .68ar, baught a 50mm Hks wastegate with dump tube, i got a 4 inch downpipe from my friends supra, and a aem intake for the turbo, im still in the process of buying the oil lines and fittings, injectors, also if you guys can give me some input, i have the stock w58 manual transmission and my clutch is already going out, so what clutch kit should i get guys??? im looking to put out abut 450whp

W58? and 450 HP?
Your best best is to get a twin and hope that the disks soak up most of the shock.
W58's don't like that kind of power.
Especially when you are beating the snot out of it, with an unsprung "Pucked" clutch.
Spec has good twins, and as always, OS Giken and Ogura Race Clutch.
Either that, or keep the power moderate.

Yea 450whp or more isnt too bad, im makin 483whp on my single'd 1j and I must say the W58 will jus not last, eventually it will blow, but if u treat the tranny good wit will holds its purpose until u can get ur r154 setup, my w58 blew up on me weds and I got another w58 thurs & put it n friday...
But my point is it will blow, its jus when it will blow is the question...
goodluck wit everything & congrats! U will love the single'd life

My turbo SC is in that power range as well, but I'm in the process in getting my R154 rebuilt...
I still have my w58 (sitting in garage), but luckily i never blew it.
The ACT extreme pressure plate and six puck should hold at the time being, but definitely look into a R154 in good condition....
I thought i got a good one, but now having it rebuilt for the 2nd time.
Enjoy the upgrade!

i never even driven mine with the twin turbos. lol i took those pea shooters off asap and put on a single gt35r.
i gotta say. this thing spools like a T25 on a V12! no lag!
anyway. mosdef get a r154. i've read enough to know u should not push more than 400 on them.
besure to get injectors. ur gonna need more fuel with a blower that throws more air into the motor.

I love repeating myself.
The W58 is just like, well the DSM W5-series, weird co-incidence isn't it?
Anyways, the common denominator is that both of these transmissions have a reputation for being incredibly weak.
The solution is NOT to install a crazy heavy pressure plate, and a "Pucked" disk.
Sprung or Unsprung doesn't matter, Pucked clutches have crazy harsh engagement, shocking the input shafts and such.
This is how stuff breaks.
That kind of a clutch is for a Drift car.
Constantly beating the car and clutch kicking, drifters care less about "pedal feel", and "engagement".
But all this drift action goes through a pucked disk, has no give when you engaging the clutch. Instant turning force (Torque) chatters, oscillates, and destroys your transmission.
The trick is to minimize Drivetrain shock under engagement in order for the trans to last.
*Hence the Twin disk.
Twin Disks do exactly what they say.
There are two disks, usually organic and sprung.
You don't rely on a crazy heavy pressure plate that will destroy your crank thrust bearing.
You rely on the friction two disks provide, and a softer plate.
This results in an almost stock pedal feel, and the ability to softly handle up to 700hp in most cases.
If you want to keep the W58, and you want it to stay in there for a while, get a twin disk.
Twin setups go from $700 used from Japan on Ebay, to the Carbonetic Twin disk at $2500.
It may sound expensive, because it is!
