Default timging belt and water pump replacement price for sc400

I just got a quote from my mechanic that it will cost me $795... is that a good price? how much did you guys pay for your SC400 service?

holy mechanic repellent batman! sounds like a ripoff....just joking on a serious note it is a bunch of work to do the timing belt service on a 400...best advice is buy the kit off ebay the one manufactured by aisin the company who produces toyotas parts its about $180 if i remember right and then pay your mechanic labor to install it if you are not able to do the job yourself.....i did mine and i had the help of my father in law who is a certified mechanic....

The job is probly a 7-8 hr labor chrge at dealer so with a good mechanic charging maybe $80 an hr you dont want any joe working on your car that price is pretty good...does it include full parts seals, belts, water pump if so then yes good price i dont know to may people getting tbelt jobs on v-8's being done any cheaper without some type of hook up

That's why I'm thinking of going 2jz. I eventually soul like to go boosted and make 600hp. Just can't see my 1uz making that for a good price.

If he will wty the part and labor then yes it is. The timing belt on the Sc400 is a HUGE pita. The whole front has to come off and everything on the front comes off with it. Labor hours plus part...... it's a fine price. the good news is that you'll never have to do it again.

The better news is that if you are just doing it because of high mileage...... don't. It's a non interference engine so drive it till it breaks. It may never..... These engines easily do 250k on the stock belt, though not recommended. Like it matters..... won't hurt it if it breaks.

If you just need to do the water pump, then do that and skip the timing belt if you don't want to do it.

that's not a bad price at all in truth but you can beat it.
it will be about 6 to 8 hours like hovsc400 said.
and if it does break like OLT said it's not interference mine broke when i went to pull off from a stop.

i just backed the a/c off around an inch when the time came and that saved me some labor time. (its the water pump that runs behind everything that's the headache) you will be under the timing belt fairly easily.

use any of the DIY's found on this site. but a word of caution... if you lose belt clock position.
i ended up having to ignore the clock position timing on the DIY i found and set the crankshaft @ top dead center on the number one cylinder and clocked the cams at 9 oclock and 5 oclock. (remember 9 to 5 the song and you cant go wrong with the 1uzfe)

Cost me $1,000 on my 300. Replaced timing belt, waterpump, cap/rotor, all plugs, all new gaskets including valve covers...basically whatever the typical 90k mile service requests. I don't have the mechanical skill or time to handle a timing belt project.

I think its a fair price, mine was done at 90,ooo mi, I now have 190,000 mi and I plan on running it till it breaks

my mechanic told me 700 flat for everything on my 1uz he said he normally charges a grand but becuase i know him.....so yea thats a good price vs a dealer who would prob charge like 1500

Default Timing belt okay?

i'm at 82000 miles but its a 98 and i was wondering since idk how well it was stored will it be fine waiting until closer to 90000 miles or should i do it as soon as possible?

I paid $1380 at the dealership. I bought the official toyota kit with seals and what not. $880 for labor, $500 for kit from Sewell. I figured I'd splurge on this just in case I decide to sell the car I can show on the official Lexus website that I had the work done.

Well, in my opinion since your in the NW and its not a very dry climate you'll be ok. If it was a Cali or Nevada car all its life then yeah, it would be pretty dried out by now. You'll be totally fine until 100k ish, if you're just worried about it, go for it.

ya slightly worried cause i paid it off, but it sounds fine to drive then..? i had to use it to go to vancouver and back for work but trying not to drive. anyway i can check the condition of it, i was a little confused at first cuz i thought the belt at the front of the motor that is visible is the timing belt. but apparently its the serpentine..

Just took a look & mine cuz I figured I was pushing the limit on my belt & water pump, bought the car with 169k 0n it & now have 220k on it. Thought the Lawyer who owned it would've done the required maintanence on it, but always wondered why the book wasn't kept up, well turns out he was a cheap son of a "B" and I have 220k on every thing! So all parts are on the way & complete tune up & even a new performance radiator. I'll have a busy weekend soon, until then I have to quit racing the Challengers & Chargers for a bit. Just tells you how well these cars are built!
