Default This is probably a stupid question, but will ask anyway

1JZ/R154 shipped for $2500, or 2JZ/auto shipped for $2000? I'm sure most people will lean towards 2JZ, sell the auto, use that money and a bit extra and get an R154 to put on it but I thought I'd ask anyways. I know the 1JZ has kinda weak stock twins where as the 2JZ has stronger ones, plus the extra displacement for torque and spooling a larger turbo a bit quicker. Also, I hear the early 1JZs are more prone to rod knocking than later models, or 2JZs.

Don't turn this into a which is better thread, just want to know which works out better as to what I get for my money.

Your question kinda leads to that last statement. I will try not to be biased. Go 2jz but understand that unless you have a hook up the r154 will cost roughly 2k.

As for the 1jz with the r154. You will still have to modify it.

Good luck.

Get the 1jz w/ r154, remove the 1jz block and slap on the 2jz block and go boost happy with your 1.5jz. More torque than a 1jz and some cost savings.

What's your current setup? SC3/SC4? Auto/Manual? depending on your current setup one will be more invasive as well as costly than the other but it's up to you to do what you want.

Both are good motors, 1JZ tends to be what people do if they want a more straight forward swap. 2JZ tends to be for those who want the added torque as well as the potential for much higher HP #'s. I personally like the 1JZ because it came in our car and you can put it in with ease, especially if you prepare properly and do it right.

If the 1jz/r154 are out of the MK3 then it will be a little more pain but doable.

If its a true Soarer 1jz/r154 swap I say get it. If it is from a Chaser, Supra etc, I would just go 2JZ instead.

+1 if it's a soarer 1JZ setup then go for it. Really hard to come by those these days. Also don't expect to get much back for an Aristo auto, at most $250 if you're lucky and it's in good shape. R154s are pricey by themselves, not to mention clutch parts, hydraulics, etc. This is just talking pricewise for what you're looking to start with, not including all the goodies you'll need down the road
