Default Battery keeps dying on 98 SC300...

Hey guys, I read two posts from people who had the same problem but they didn't really help too much...

Its a 1998 Lexus Sc300 Automatic

For about 3 months, my car has been dying nonstop.. sometimes after 2 days..but mostly after one.. I have had the alternator changed about a month ago and it ran for about a week.. and then this problem started again.. Someone I know mentioned it could be something with the starter..a ring of some sort? I'm just really stuck right now and need help ASAP so I can get it fixed.

Recently I have had a new headunit placed in my car and also thought it could of been because of that or something?

Any help or input would be appreciated tons. Thanks in advance guys!

Your battery is probably on it's last leg. Also check to see if you have any accessories drawing current while the car is off.

Did this start right after the new head unit install and does the radio turn on without the key being turned on ? With the car running check the voltage at the battery, should be at least 13 volts or so, if less than 12 the alternator has a problem.

^^^This ^^^.

Particularly if you've had a high powered amp installed. Most times they have a direct lead from the battery with a remote on/off control signal coming from the headunit. Any mix-up there, and it'll run down your battery by staying powered up and drawing power 24/7.

I had something similar to this happen in an old Firebird I had. Somehow I wound up with this junker that was missing its radio. I bought a cheap am/fm for it but hadn't had a chance to put it in yet. One day my wife takes off in the car and when she comes back she had let her dad put the radio in. He wired it straight in, it worked without the ignition turned on and if I accidentally left it on it killed the battery. It also shorted out my headlight relay and my lights wouldn't flip anymore.

It could be your battery. Replace it if you have not done so as yet. Also check all your battery connections and grounds.

Check to see if you hear any feed back from your speakers while the car is off. The little subwoofer in the back was drawing a current while my car was off before so i simply took it out and replaced it with a new one.

Thanks for all the responses guys. The Headunit does not function when the car is off... Some kid told me the other day that I should put a compactor in... I just got a new battery 3 days ago... but it wasn't a BRAND NEW. Still happening. Maybe I should get a brand new one? I got my alternator changed and this still has been happening. It's really making me angry cause I have for jump the battery EVERY day.

I'll have my friend check the voltage and stuff.

@sc4demon - What terminals are you talking about?

I had the same issue with a new battery. I drive the car once a week but the battery would die after 7 days. After about three weeks it would be dead 24hrs later. Went through two supposedly new batteries from Auto Zone with the same scenario. Then I had enough and got a new Interstate battery and its six months later with no issues.

As others have mentioned check the voltage on your battery with the car on.

just throw away Interstate battery... it was purchased 1/10... the battery was bad and they wouldn't honor the warranty because I did not have a receipt and it was taken out of my car(?)... check terminals... make sure they are tied tightly
