I've had my 1j 5speed for about a year now and it's still a whole lot of fun. Not one problem either. If I would do it all over again I still would go 1j and keep the stock twins. Stock twins + boost controller + down pipe = fun daily driver!

Just wanted to post up my car is an NA-T running a aristo GTE ecu now, and it runs great.
So confirmed, people do not have to use the GE ecu anymore, the gte ecu is just a few more wires work than wiring up an aem ems.

You ditched an AEM for an Aristo ecu Ali? You must have an even cooler car that needed EMS huh? :P

I had my fun with it. My car is not a full out race car. The aristo ecu fits the bill and the starting and regular drive ability is night and day compared to the aem. sure you can't tune everything perfect in WOT, cant run my boost controller and e-fans off of it etc etc, but I really don't need to have all those things wired through my ecu. Still pulls hard, timing is spot on.

I just dont think the aem is that much better, unless you need a custom timing curve, but at this point I can just install an aem FIC onto my aristo ecu, and have control over timing and injection for a quarter the price. Best part is my car will still start and idle like a stock 2j with a piggyback.

No more will I sit there for 10 minutes cranking my car in the cold weather while people look at me funny. Why can't that lexus start... lol.. must be a junker. Here im thinking man, If only I could get it started I'll show you. all the mods in the world are useless when the engine doesn't start.

OIC, well that makes sense. That is one of the reasons I am still shy of a standalone. Your tune better be perfect, or daily driving will suffer.

Exactly, I just wanted good driveability back from before the day I slapped that turbo on, and no other ecu gave me what this ecu is already doing, no tuning required. Don't need the laptop anymore

DM kits have been around for some time and has proven their reliability within their limits. Once the limits are pushed, people on here say you better ff buying a Ebay turbo for the money. Everyone will have an opinion. I have personally never used their turbo kits, but have used several of their other parts, seals, IC piping, sensors, and so on, and would buy from them again, no questions asked. I went with a BW S366, and never looked back.

I still to this day don't understand why so many people opt out of the 1JZ platform. Since my swap, it has been fun, outrun a few cars, and has been a daily driver for sometime, at least over a year and half. Only left me stranded once. Faulty relay going to fuel pump. I keep a fire extinguisher, zip ties, fuses, vacuum lines, relay, and zip ties with me in the car. You never know. If this 1JZ ever fails, I will go the 1.5 route, why.... people ask me.. Well its because I can reuse my DP, head, BC cams, and so forth. I might even upgrade the injectors, but I am pretty happy with my mid 500 RWHP on pump gas. It seems anything more, it will not be able to put it to the ground without spending more money. The downgrade to 17's on TT's have helped me some, but the huge difference in pulling power is the MKIV auto rear end install. People sometimes forget to upgrade the brakes, suspension, wheels and ties when they decide to put in a swap. Some things in my book that Cant be overlooked.

Question

Read all 10 pages and although I learned quite a bit, I now have even more questions. If there is an even better thread, please link it here.

Its all about how much you are trying to spend and what setup you like the most..

At the end of the days, they will all make some decent power..700-800hp, 2jz is easy 800-850hp in a stock form, 1jz easy 700-750hp.

They are all money pits!!

2JZGTE..far superior....if you got the money why not go with the best...with only a single turbo upgrade you can run close to 400 hp all day and have the reliability of a stock ECU....
