Am I screwed?... :-(
I recently got a deal on a 1jz stock setup for a good price and instead of just throwing it in the sc i wanted to re do all seals and get the head cleaned and resurfaced, so naturally i tore the motor down took off all belts, covers, etc. Although I have some engine mechanical knowledge, this is the first time i have worked on a 1j like this taking off the head to change a head gasket. I noticed that on the cam shaft brackets there was a lettering sequence and didnt think nothing of it at the time....now i am wondering.....did I need to remember that sequence for the reinstall? And if so am i screwed if i dont remember what it was?
EDIT: did a search and found a diy for the head uninstall.... but nothing on the reinstall....

You should have noted the position of each cap. You can take it to a machine shop and have them sort the caps with a bore gauge. Otherwise it is a guessing game and you will inevitably end up with a cap that is not aligned 100%.
Just my .02 on the RIGHT way to do it. You could also just slap them on there any old way and cross your fingers.
EDIT: Oh cool, I did not realize they were all numbered and lettered appropriately. I did not really notice that when I took mine off. I did see some letters, but nothing that seemed to be too meaningful regarding position. I stand corrected.

Lol it's really easy they have letters and number on them clean them up really good and you will see.
I1,I2,I3,I4,I5,I6,I6 those are the intake side
E1,E2,E3,E4,E5,E6,E7 those the exhaust side.
Just clean the top of the cam cap and you will send the letter I or E and the number and then there is an arrow that shows you what side suppose to face the front of the engine.

pretty much all toyota motors use numbers on the caps. only way to put them in the wrong spot is if you're blind.
