actually using gte pistons on a na head is almost as bad as it relates to quench .. the best would be gte pistons with na hg...but from the research and testing my tuner has done ge pistons with tt hg is perfect for up to 30 ish psi

I thought that was what I just said

Gte pistons + na headgasket is theoretically the best for maintaining the proper squish, but it does not lower the compression as much as the headgasket and costs many times more to do.
The only things i would do would be just tt headgasket (i actually did this), or stock high compression + methanol spray, or stock high compression + E85. all 3 will give u good power, prevent detonation, and not kill the wallet.
Building the block is overkill under 600 hp. if i blow a stock block I can just drop another one in.

I would use ALL of the boost!

On a more serious note, you should be fine on 16 psi I'd imagine. I wouldn't go over 20 though without upgrading some stuff.

ok. cool. yeah.. we are doing 18lbs.. i am trying to stay under 500 for the w58. i heard too close and they are no good.
I need some info and help. I have done the searches. but I am trying to go distributorless but I was told by my installer i am missing something.
I have:
Stand alone
vvti ignitor
vvti coil packs
crank sensor
Block off plate
GTE cams.
what am i missing or is there a link to an instructional set up?

there are a couple different ways to go coil on plug on a non-vvti 2jzge.
normally the distributor is the cam and crank sensor.

if you want to use gte cams, they do not have the gear for the distributor on exhaust cam.
part of it can be remedied by using a Gte oil pump for the GTE crank sensor setup.
the other part is not easy because the na head has no spot for a GTE cam sensor.
some people drill the hole and weld a fitting to the na head to make it like a TT, or use an actual TT head (the vvti 2jzge has this fitting also).
some people have also made a custom hall trigger setup. there is no diy yet for the 2jz.

If you just use 2jzge cams though instead of GTE ones, you can run a CPS in place of the distributor (or even use just the base of the distributor) and get your cam/crank signals. it works effectively and CPS costs under $50. you would just need the standalone, the vvti ignitor, and vti coilpacks, and the cps or distributor as the sensor, pretty much everything you have but you cant use the GTE exhaust cam.

here is a write up.

you should start a new thread. sounds like you need some bpu mods, get a downpipe and a boost controller and raise the boost to just below fuel cut. search BPU and things like BCC (boost cut controller: if you want to go past boost cut). there are lots of ways to do all this.

yup, the n/a cams are actually pretty decent, and you can get longer duration ones as well.
