Default SC400 transmission problems.

I bought a 92 sc400 for cheap. It has 171,000 miles on it. The past owner said he was driving one day when the car stopped and he was not able to drive anymore. He said he tried going through the gears and he got nothing. I jumped the car, started it and i was able to move it back and forth. When the car heated up a little i tried to move it and got nothing. I also checked the trans fluid. It was dark ut it had no metal flakes. Its at my house now and i am trying to figure out ifthe tras is bad. I called a few lexus dealerships and they told me if the trans is bad it will throw a code. They also said if the fluid is filled too high it will behave like that. I checked th fluid again while it wa cold. It looks like the fluid is way above the limit. Dose this sound familure to anyone? I could use lot advise before i get the trans replaced.

Try to leave the fluid at it´s working level. It´s free and maybe it´ll work.
Other than that, I think your trans is out. Try IPT to get a good answer of what to do.

I'm not sure but if your tranny fuel is too high that is bad too i believe. If its pitch black then try changing it

my transmission was dying on me so i changed my fluid it was as dark as my oil change. drained refill and now my transmission works like a dream!

plus 10 bucks is a lot better than spending 200-300 for a new transmission

Yup. If it's a auto it gies on the chopping block for cheap. I found a few in my area for $3-500. I was quoted $400 for an install.

If your fluid is black then drain all of it out and refill in red fluid. black = dirty/oil/junk.

yes and refill it till it is on the max

Ok thanks. I read that it's problly useless and it will either solve the problem for a little or not at all. I also spoke to someone and they said I might want to look into my torque converter. I just want to make a good decision rather than a bad one causing me to spend more money in the end.

Hi. Yes, I meaned that, drain it till it´s at level. IPT performance transmissions repair, built and mod our auto´s, sure they know well what are you needing. Here´s the link to their site: http://www.importperformancetrans.com/
I´m about to buy a shift kit from them as I can´t have those cheap auto´s here so I need my trans to last.
