Default IS 98 GE motor with VVT-i interference?

Guys,

As above, is the motor in a 98 SC300 an interference motor or no? I know 97 below they weren't, but didn't know if the VVT-i changed that??

Thanks,
Jonny

Nope, still non-interference, unless you do aftermarket cams, some aftermarket cams will make them interference.

I've done work on several, and trust me its a non-interference motor. I did cam profiling for GSC Power Division and we did several combo's. Stock the 2JZ VVTi is non interference.

Interesting, on all the VVTi's I've ever worked on or cam profiled ive never seen a one that was interference, ill try to dig up the old data, this was around 5 years ago that I did cam profiling for it, and based on all of my experience they werent, I am capable of being wrong however. The cams we made for it made it interference for sure.

I also recall seeing something about interference in the shop manual that's specifically made for 98-2000 SC300 (big *** encyclopedia). Maybe i'll dig it up tomorrow to confirm. I should replace my timing belt soon, however, i don't have the VVTi bottom anymore, I have GTE bottom now otherwise i would have confirmed
