Sorry to bring this old thread back, but this was all I could find when I googled the swap.

I am looking to buy a 92 SC300 that has a head gasket problem.

I was thinking of removing the 2jz completely and swapping a 1uz v8 with a manual transmission (w58, unless there's a better one for a decent price).

Would anybody have anything to say against this? I'm not in it for the huge power gain so I could really settle for one of the first two generations of the 1uz but I'd like the sound and idea of a v8, especially in a coupe.

I'm imagining that other than the complete engine, harness, ecu etc. I would only really need the engine mounts from an SC400. Is that correct?

I appreciate all help.

The motor mounts question is right. The ac lines wouldnt hook up directly either. Need to be changed also. Do you have the 1UZ or need one with all the wiring, ecu, etc in the classifieds sections, under O.L.T. I will have one for sale in about a month or so. Redphoenix has a DIY in the performance and maint. section for the W58, step by step, with parts list for the 1UZ.. Good luck

Perfect reply! Thank you!

And yeah I will be in the market for a 1uz soon. Preferably the middle model just so I can get the most out of it for the money, not too high mileage either, even though they last forever.

The ac may not be a problem, I don't know if I care. It won't be my daily driver.

And I WILL need the motor mounts.

I'm considering selling the 2jz in the condition its in for probably cheap just to get it out of my hands and pay off the car sooner.

Good luck with whatever you decide on doing. If you can wait a month or so I will put this motor on you right. Its the original one with 183k. I did all the maintence on it at 34k ago or so. Timing belt. Etc. Lmk. There is a complete w58 for sale in the classifieds

I can't access the classifieds yet and what exactly do you mean by complete? I'm afraid of the total cost of that swap ha

By complete means the ecu, wiring harness, motor, accessories, complete for the swap except the ac compressor. Let it go all when I pull it for about 750 plus shipping or so.

Hey guys I'm considering this 1UZ VVTI 5-speed in my SC300 sometime down the road. What I'm only concerned about is first the gas mileage (MPG) and if it has pretty decent speed. I'm getting pretty bad mileage for my SC at the moment (14MPG) and I'm wondering if going though with a 1UZ vvti engine swap + 5-speed manual transmission would be gas efficient. I have other plans on my car, but this seems like it should be my number 1 concern out of all the mods.

A detailed reply would be appreciated

horrible idea.

Short Answer.

Lower the differential ratio.
Buy a 1JZ or 2JZ VVT-i. 2JZ VVT-i with 3.77 rear ratio might be better in terms of MPG even with the increased displacement.

Long Answer.

1UZ VVT-i is not user friendly to swap.

It utilizes a returnless fuel system. Being OBD-II it features sensors in the fuel tank for vapor leaks. Be prepared to swap out the entire fuel tank.

Charcoal Canister is mounted in the SMIC location and I believe features a sensor. Don't quote me on this but I believe it too needs to be swapped over.

1UZ won't bolt up to W58 be repaired to spend extra on the swap kit.

Power Steering Hose, Remote Mount Reservoir, Hydrofans or convert to electric.

Biggest issue is with the ECU. It comes with an immobilizer so you'll need the key, immobilizer, theft deterrent and wireless door unit. The wireless entry unit is worth the upgrade but the rest isn't.

Tachometer may be off, may be not, may require sc400 cluster or adapter. Speedometer is read off the ABS so it'll need to be tapped off a sensor instead, possible converter necessary.

Summary - You'll require just about the full vehicle for a swap. Cost wise get a JZ VVT-i engine, same or better cost, close to same or more with upped boost power. Better mileage because of the lower gearing or variable valve timing. Both reasons the 1UZ VVT-i itself gets better mileage.

@account2x

I think my main concern at the moment is just mileage, first mod I want may be a 5-speed swap. Is the 2JZ still fairly fast?
