Just wondered if anyone in the SC400 clan has noticed this same phenomenon as many of us LS guys??

Part # 89422-20010 Sensor

 

i have heard of people changing out that sensor back in my camry days. Hear it does make a difference.

 

Restoration of performance would be a better assesment.

 

i saw that the ECU was reset. i wonder if this is where most of the restoration of performance was gained?

So is the ECU retarding the timing because it thinks the engine is running hotter with the old temp sensor?

the ECU will retard the timing because of knocking with ****e gas. resetting the ECU will rid that and give you a little boost in performance.

 

If anyone has the COOLANT TEMP. SENSOR #for the 95 SC400 I would appreciate it. Sounds promising to get rid of cold rough running prob.

 

Fairly certain the part # I left is correct for your 95.
I used this same part # on 90, 94 & 96 LS 400's.

That is a toyota oem part #. There is some debate on the LS Forum as to the performance of the cheaper aftermarket sensors.

 

I bought a BWD , coolant temp. sensor, made in the USA, from Advance today, $29.95. The parts guy told me over the phone it was a Borg Warner, but it dosent say that anywhere on the box. It did not come with a gasket, and the parts guy informed me that none of the BWD sensors do. It also says its a Z series. Should we use any sensor safe silicone or teflon tape to avoid leaks? I havent taken the old one out yet to see how the fact. sealed it. Good catch on needing a deep well socket, as I keep some tools at a diff. location 19mm... The part # was a wt653z the invoice refers to the part as a radiator switch, but of course I told the guy i wanted a coolant temp. sensor. BTW, with my A.C. on today I noticed a lot of sluggishness pulling away from stop signs, and a jerking in O.D. at 1400- 1600 RPMs. Hope this part helps.

My bad DAMON I didnt catch that part # at the bottom of your thread. Got to let her get cooled down to swap the part out.
