thermostat controls the coolant flow between the motor and the radiator. both are full of coolant. when the temperature in the motor reaches a certain level the thermostat mechanically opens and allows cooler fluid from the radiator the enter.
you will be fine. racecars dont have heater cores and they run fine :P
btw did you even notice that racecar and also racecar when spelled backwards. sorry im hyper studying on energy drinks.
