Default newb question on idle...

Straight to the point. When I turn the car on, (SC400) it idles at 1K RPM and when I put it in Drive or Reverse, it goes down to 800 RPM. Is this normal? I had the car worked on and for some reason I think the idle is higher than it used to be. I dont know if it's me being paranoid or what. Just a few quick replies should suffice. Thank you guys!

It does this all the time or when the engine is cold?

Well could be alot of things. Dirty IAC or TPS is possible. If that happens while the engine is cold then that is pretty normal. when the engine in mine is at norman operating temp mine idles around 500rpm. I woul be sure exactly when it is happening cause like I said when engine is cold that is pretty normal. If it does it all the time you should start by cleanning the IAC.

Thank you for your reply. I will test it out today on the way to work and see if it is just the engine when it is cold or if it is truly ALL the time.

I agree with the IAC and the TPS. Clean those out and that might help you out. If you want to lower the idle yourself you can adjust the TPS by loosening the 2 screws on the TPS wiring harness plug. Then you move it to the desired RPM range and then tighten the screws.
