Default Is this a early soarer tranny or later version ? pics inside...

Can someone please tell me if this is a early soarer r154 tranny that will just drop into my SC with my 1JZ or if it is a later one that I will need to modify the shifter with the swan style and JDM parts from Carson?

that is a late model transmission. It will drop right in and the shifter should fit up correctly. Remember the early model is the one that needs to be modified since it doesnt have the extension like you show in the pic.

Huh, never knew there were two versions, good to know. You wouldn't happen to know the years would you soarer?

the early version (looks like the mk3 r154) is from 92 to 94
the late versions (like above) came in the 95+

The tranny tunnel was modified in the later years to accept a narrower transmission along with having a slightly different cutout for the manual tranny.

So is the transmission itself narrower in the 95+?

ok, then... so for my '92 auto SC.... this tranny should just bolt right in with no modification needed ??

You have a 92? No it wont "bolt" in. You will have to cut a new hole in your transmission housing for the shifter.

Pretty much this is how it works.

92-94 US SC300 needs a 92-94 soarer "early" model transmission like I have. This does NOT need to be modified in ANY way to fit.

95+ US SC300's changed the shifter location in the tranmission tunnel. Your transmission will bolt straight up to these without modification.

ok, so thats what I thought.

So I will need to cut about 2 in. back into the tunnel correct ? Will the shifter come up into the stock location in the interior still though ? Do I need to mod the shifter at all ?

Or can I do what blizzy's thread is about and buy the conversion parts so I don't need to cut anything ?

In other words, what exactly will need to be done with the tranny pictured above and my '92 SC auto to make it all work including driveshaft options ???

You will just have to modify your tunnel in a different spot. It should fit your boot the same.

Your trans just extends an inch further back than mine, and has a straight shifter. While mine is an inch shorter, but has a 1" extra bend in the shifter itself to give me the same distance. I believe the interior console is different in these models aswell and thats why they did this.

Nope console is the same, only thing you need to do is get a shift boot that replaces the factory automatic shifting assembly. http://www.luxurymods.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=535

Just like to say another awesome job by someone that cant use the research button, and thanks to awesome mods that don't sticky or make an faq section on the 400 other threads about this.

O and by the way, please don't guess at where to cut the hole until the trans is mounted....
