Default Timing question....

I'm running aem EMS on my NA-t Sc300. (distributor setup)

I feel stupid for asking this but....

Standing in front of the car at idle pointing the timing light at the crank. The timing mark goes to the passanger side.

Advancing the timing, the timing mark should going towards driver side. Correct?

If the above is corect, My car does the opposite. When I rev it up the timing light goes the passanger side. retarding the timing the timing mark goes to the drivers side.

Which is correct?

Or I guess a more simple question would be. Is 10*BTDC (factory timing mark) considered retarding timing or advancing? I woudl have considered it to be -10* because it's on the left side of the zero. I.E. retarding timing? SO advancing timing the timing mark shoudl move to the right (drvr's side)??

I'm lost.... which direction is adv and which is retarding on a 2jz when standing in front of the car.

Thanks....

There is a sticker on the hood that says 10 is factory and it would be located on the passenger side of the 0.

I'm aware of this. There is only one mark on the crank pulley other than zero, and that is it. I know what side it is on.

But if the timing mark is on the zero. I'm guessing that is TDC. And if I'm seeing things right the 10* mark on the crank is 10* BTDC. So if the timing mark is going to the pass side of the zero this would be retarding timing and if the timing mark was going to the driverside of zero this would be advancing the timing.

What is confusing me is that once I set my timing to 10* and then let the computer take over. The way I'm seeing things it is retarding instead of advancing the timing.

Confusing I know, I'll try and get pictures.
