Tearing down 2JZGTE and questions with pics
First question is in the picture of the bellhousing being separated there is a large amount of muck in the bellhousing and around the flexplate. Is that indicative of a Rear Main Seal leak. It just seems like an excessive amount of crap everywhere inside the bellhousing.
Second question. In the lower picture there was obviously a leak between #1 and #2 exhaust port. Where is this coming from because I don't see why oil is there? Didn't see any evidence until I took the twins off.

Trans leak
From the pictures it looks like a trail of liquid from the front input shaft seal on the trans itself -- is the source. To be sure, pull the torque converter and flex-plate off. Then carefully look at the 6:00 position on the rear main seal. My 1992 5spd SC300 had a rear main seal weeping, but I had nowhere near the accumulation of gunk on the bottom of the bellhousing as you.
On the port leak -- I would suspect that hex plug-- but I don't know enough about the passageways to know if there is a oil galley behind that plug or a coolant galley.

Hard to tell in the pic of the bellhousing. It looks like the NEVER drying,
thick oily, nasty undercoating. Toyota sprays it on oil pans, etc., but
I've seen it in some pretty strange places. whats that stuff doin
here? If it is 'the' undercoating, you'll know, major pain to fully remove.
Edit: the trans fluid on the input shaft looks fresh/ spillage when you
yanked the torque converter off.
