Question 92 SC400 1JZGTE - Gas tank "bubbles", will not go much over 4k, severe power loss

This happened to me once before on a Ford Contour SVT. I am assuming there is a in-tank filter? Am I right or am I crazy? I have never had a problem with this, until I filled up at a Shell in Temple Texas. I barely made it home from the station. I can let the car sit a while, it works great again. After a bit of driving, it does the same thing. The bubbling sound from the fuel tank reminds me childhood days, blowing bubbles in my milk... Any ideas would be ... great! Thanks!

Oh, is the fuel filter right in front of the drivers rear tire?

You are correct on the location of the fuel filter and your fuel pump should have a sock/filter on it. If it doesn't, somebody's messed with it.

Ive never heard these symptoms, but if you haven't gotten new filters in awhile, it wouldn't hurt to start there.

Good Luck

The fuel filter is not in the tank, it's underneath the car on the driver side in front of the rear wheel.

he's talking about a sock which covers the pump suction. its a very coarse filter and generally doesnt need to be changed, however, if stations are letting their tanks get so low they're sucking up sediment in the tanks (due to high gas prices) its quite possible you get some chunky gas and its screwing with the sock over the pump suction.
