Default Swapping out 97-2000 cluster for 93-94 cluster

Gang, Since i am changing my shifter to a gated one in my 93, I wanted to match up the shift pattern in the gauge cluster with the gated one. I have a 2000 SC300 gauge cluster with the gated shift pattern. Of course, this is OBDII, and the 93 is OBDI, and I am quite positive this could be a problem. Has anyone done this, and what issues did you run into?

Thanks,

Ryan

I did the shifter mod and used the complete dash from my 97 on my 92 and everything went well .Remove the dash harness from bodyplugs and unbolt the dash. Just remember to use passanger side crash bar so the airbag will bolt up.

So it will be ok to just plug the 97+ cluster into pre-97 without modification?

Let's just say this.... I've had my gated shifter conversion for years now in my SC4..

I've wanted to have it matching the gated shifter as you said SC400TT, and it's very possible. You have your parts car, let's just hope you removed your dash wiring.

I have clusters AND dash wiring for a 97, 98, and 99 SC. I have them for a reason.

3-4 members have done this mod to date...

Once you replace the dash harness with the 97+ you can use the 97 + cluster .Imo it looks 100% better than the older clusters especially with the mpg lcd.

you are 100% correct. No one knows the value of the newer clusters...

Yes this is definately a hott upgrade. With this and the gated shifter installed the interior is no longer outdated and if you have the 97+ body conversion to go with it then there is no more need for a 97+ sc. I think yours will be easier since your car is a 95 . Some wires will have to be repinned on the radio /ac harness to get the hazard to work.

Keep in mind youre Tach will be messed up. The sc300 and 400 tachs are different. I think it will read really low. I had a SC400 cluster in a sc300 and it read clear off the top of the scale, I used to freak people out when they thought I was turning my 300 to over 8000 RPM. lol I know there are ways around it but I have not read up on it.

Haha my tach shifts at 10K with the 1j in there because its from the v8. Like Scott said the tach will be off of you put the v8 cluster in the sc3 and vice versa.

simple mod to convert sc4 to sc3 takes about 20 minutes including removal of cluster from car. you do have to have the opposite cluster though. the part you need is in there. i just would pick up ones that were not lighting up or had a billion miles etc.

Because of my TT project, it is important that I fix this tach issue. How do I do this?

Thanks,

Ryan

If you have a v8 just get a v8 cluster, it will be accurate. If its a inline 6 use the sc3 cluster .I think there is a way to calibrate the sc4 cluster, dont quote me on that though .I use my afc for rpm readings.
