I have one of those ebay manifolds on my car. Its got about 10k miles on it with no problems.

As far as the turbos, they aren't cheap. Don't skimp on quality for the turbo charger. Stick with known manufacturers. I'm very happy with my Garret T67. As long as you stick with a good brand, the only decision to make is what size to go with.

100% get a custom manifold. ive helped to build some pretty strong some d1 cars and skyline gtrs and the one thing you dont want to skimp out on is a manifold. so i say custom as long as its being made by a reputable person. or shop. Becase you will feel alot worse when you crack alot of manifold and have to keep replacing them. when you could have spent that little extra and have had a manifold with no problems

For 400-500hp you should be on a nothing more than a "medium" sized turbo for the 1jz and your modest hp goal. A small to medium turbo will have boost early and strong and be more fun and drivable than larger turbo. The single I'm using is old school, solid reliable. It would very easily surpass 500hp with a better fuel system and gas. You do not need anything bigger.

About the manifold question, get a Turbonetics cast manifold because it is unquestionably bomb proof.

I'm scratching my head over why the word "custom" and "ebay" and reliable all show up in the same sentence. Custom is expensive and everything depends on who did the work, eBay mani's are from different manufacturers, different quality control and can be all over the map. So what one person's ebay or custom made has little correlation to the next guys. Go over to Supraforums and read what is said about cast mani's. For your modest hp goals the cast manifold is perfect.

Well this all depends on you. 400-500 hp can be made in very different ways. If your car is going to be a daily then i would just get a turbo kit and nothing else. It would be alittle harder with just a turbo kit and little supporting mods. I.E. Injectors, fuel pump, and safc. But if you want 400-500 fairly easy with some more mods then you don't have to run alot of boost. You can keep it fairly low. But your day to day would change. You can get away with staggered cams like 264 in and 272 ex. That would keep your idle about the same. But if you think about it... It's like taking in 1 second worth of air and then blowing out 2 seconds worth of air. To me it doesn't make since. BUT it works on cars. IF you look at some of our forum members. They have more than just a turbo upgrade. For example look @ 1jz300. He has the SC61 turbo charger 38mm w/g and more junk to back it up. I would expect him to be boosting about 1 bar daily and 1.4bar for race. But he also has a EMan for fueling help and timing correction. As for Turbine housings. Try and find a turbo that doesn't have a divided inlet for the Turbine housing. The divider is for 2.0L and smaller engines. I have learned messing with Lan Evo's and Impreza STi's. That design is called Twin Scroll. It's a twin fin turbine extruder. 1 side is low RPM and the other side is for higher RPM. It helps alot on small engines. The MR2 also uses this method. Would type more but i am at work. Hope i helped alittle.

the mani i was looking at on ebay was the xs power manifolds ,i heard people say bad things about it but yet it never failed anyone that i know is using it .i wont even dream on getting a greedy or turbonetics cast iron manifold .yes it is more durable but my pocket is not that deep .(yet)as for the injectors .will the aristo injectors work well on a single turbo application ? i upgraded my fuel pump to the mk4 pumps .will that pump enough gas ? .i still dont know where i am gonna buy my turbo .is there a place anybody recomends for good turbos ?i

No aristo Injectors won't work. Thats alittle better than what you have now. But not as good as Supra TT injectors. The Aristo is 440's and the TT is 550's For 400-500 hp you want 550's or higher. As for the TT pump. Use 1 you don't need double. Even the Supra out there with twin pumps. It seems pointless because aeromotive makes a fuel pump for 1000+hp cars. Sp makes good turbos. Garrett mades em good. All of the big name brands make em good. Look around Supraforums.com for a company called Styder. They had made some bad crap back then. But i hear they have steped up the quality on the manifolds.

I would plan on getting some type of engine managment. Either GReddy, HKS, APEX-i , etc.
