Question Smoke from exhaust

In the morning when I frist start it up, I've got smoke coming from the exhaust. It looks like normal warm up smoke. But (1) it last for a longer than usual time. And (2) its not even cold out. Happens even in warm weather. After some 20 mins or so, it's gone.

Any ideas? The car drives fine, and doesn't bog like a blown headgasket. Could bad cats do this?

cats no....

what color is it? are you losing coolant?

many times a blown headgasket isn't noticeable except for the losing coolant part...

you need to smell it and see if it smells sweet (coolant) or like burnt oil (obvious)...

prolly wouldn't hurt to do a compression test either....

It's called condensation smoke coming from the exhaust...White smoke is normal at warm up...Hope your piston rings aren't worn out, does it burn oil? Do you have to ad a quart of oil every month?

Can be valve steam seals. They are know to go out in 2JZ's and causes smoke at start up.

that was my initial thoughts as well...

burning oil is not dark in color, it's white with a bluish tint to it...

when you say it's not cold out, what kind of temperatures are we talking, cause even cool weather will cause condensation in the exhaust like that...

stock 2jzge should be around 190-200 ish... maybe more...

how many miles? has the car been sitting? Is the car turbo?
NA motors dont have as much problem with valve stem seals going bad. But your symptoms sound like thats the problem.
Yes, bad valve stem seals would show up on a leak down test.

The reason valve stem seals go bad is because they get dry then harden and dont seat properly. If the car has been sitting for a while then thats the cause. A daily driven car will have less chance of valve stem seals going bad.
Its no easy task to replace and i wouldnt recommend doing it if you dont have the proper tools.

130,000 miles you should not have bad valve stem seals...Unless it was never maintained...Could be something else...

as lexusftw said, it has more to do with how the car was driven, daily, weekends, if it ever sat for periods of time... valve stem seals are just like any other normal seal, they are rubber, and dry out if not coated in oil the whole time...
