it doesnt say what year this is but it's vvt-i so i'm assuming it's newer than a 96, the second one is a 2jz though

what about a normal 1JZ not the vvti , can that work with the OBD2 cars? will the OBD2 system be functional or not? i need to know because i kind of have to pass emissions here in IL and they plug in that comp thing to check for any codes, and if i go 1JZ its prob not goign to work and i will fail.

sorry to bump an aging thread, but this is exactly a question that has been roaming around in my head.

Now that I think about it (just as I'm typing) someone correct me if I'm wrong. Swapping the 1jz into say a 9 sc300, if the 1jz ecu is not used the odb2 is still fully functional and present.

If the 1jz ecu is swapped then, then odb2 is lost as odb2 is only present in north America, and the 1jz ecu more than likely would fail the odb2 test. If this is the case those with 96+ sc300 might have a trouble some time passing emissions. The odb port would always fail the test due to the 1jz ecu, and there is no other way to pass emissions.

yeah i dont think there is any way around this, us OBD2 guys are basicly sqrewed. i was going the 1JZ route but then because of this issue i desided to not go it. if this can be prevented i will probobly go 1JZ that same month.

actually the answer lies in weather or not the 1jz ecu has to be used. If you dont need the 1jz ecu then you'll still be odb2 and can pass emissions once your code less.

If you have to use the 1jz then yes you'll be screwed unless there is an odb2 1jz ecu, which just sounds rare

you HAVE to use the 1jz ecu with the 1jz, there are simply too many differences between the lexus ecu and the 1jz ecu to be able to make it work realistically...

you guys need to find someone willing to "help out" on your smog inspections... any inspection can be gotten around...

also, emissions law says that you cannot replace a motor with a motor from an older car...
