Default Mustang Sound for SC400?

I really dig the sound of the last gen Mustangs not the new ones they built but the model before that. The GT's really sound mean. I was wondering if anyone has done the same to get the same sound from an SC400? Is that possible? I mean the mustang is a 5.0 and we are only 4.0. Any info if its possible to mimic the GT sound?

a pair of flowmasters and an h pipe will get you about as close as you can get. you could always get a set of lumpy cams and some headers but enjoy the cost. i personally think the 1/2uz sound more like chevy's...but thats just me

Do what I did - it sounds even better than a Mustang -

I removed all the piping and all three resonators from the cats up front all the way to the L-tuned mufflers at the back. I replaced all of that with 2.25 inch mandrel bent pipes and a Magnaflow 2.25 inch stainless steel Tru-X pipe

Thanks!

The exhaust cost $675.00 Canadian and and the mufflers cost US$650.00 over three years ago when I upgraded the stock mufflers to L-tuned mufflers.

Depends on the mufflers you end up buying. The L-tuned ones I have on my car were expensive 3 years ago compared to what you can get from Magnaflow nowadays.

The whole job will probably run you about $1K or thereabouts.

no way a custom exhaust would cost you 1k. Go to a decent muffler shop and tell them you want an X pipe and bigger piping (whatever size you need) i doubt it'd cost more then 500 (including cost of the muffler).

Is there much difference between sound and performance between mendrel and crush bent? I know mendrel is better, but still for an almost bone stock the mendrel wouldnt make that much of a difference wouldnt it?

well yeah mandrel is more but i doubt the power diff is noticable on a stock engine, espicially when he just wants sound.

I'm pretty sure the last generation wasn't a 5.0. I think either a 4.6 or 4.8

4.6, the last 5.0 was back in 95. The "last gen" should be the 99-0X.
