Default 10k mile update 1JZ swap

Well some of you might have been wondering how reliable these things are. I do not know the exact miledge since the swap, and i'm thinking its more around 20k miles but im being conservitive. The only "real" mechanical problem ive had on the car was the ORIGINAL water pump from the motor. I swapped it out with a 2JZGTE pump, works great. No other motor problems. The 1jzgte auto tranny does have a bad slip to it now, nothing un-driveable, it feels like a weak clutch under WOT, but they are so cheap (you can get em for $100 bux, and i have 2), its not really an issue except a few hrs of laying on my back. Im averaging between 19 to 23 mpg doing 85mph on the highway everywhere on 18in rims. The only engine mod i have that makes a difference is the exhaust cam is retarded 2.5 degrees. It makes for a crazy idle at times, but its up to 15 proven rwhp on stock boost.

Enjoy!

good post. i think many have been wondering how reliable they are being swapped in, i for one, have wondered what the most common replaced parts are off of swaps and will chalk up the water pump as a start. happy boosting

drain your tranny fluid
i dont know much about autos, but the fluid could be less viscous right not and be a cause for the slip.

he Vj good
post how did you retard the cams, do you have aftermarket cam gears or did you just move it when you changed the timing belt?
and lastly by by crazy idle are we talking one that is constantly changing up and down like those redicoulus cammed chevelles or will the motor die on you at times, or does it just sound wicked?
thanks in advance

Well with the manual idle screw and retarded cam, it idles kinda lumpy but not like a huge cammed smallblock, more like a misfire lol.
If you hear the cam videos on SF with the new crower 1JZ cams, wow.. just wow. I wet myself hearing 262's at idle. Thats my next mod (stage 1 2JZGTE grind 1jz cams which = stage 2.5 on 1JZ standards).

I'm using Titan 2JZGTE adjustable cam gears. They are bolt on.

Oh and its one cool video but it took a min or two to find it all the way down in the last few pages.

i swapped mine in like 3 monthes ago... been driving only for around 2 weeks because of some small problems(starter, new tire, rain)

but i should be hitting 300 miles soon.. ( gotta break in a clutch)

after clutch is broken in ima drive it even harder.iam gonna flush all the fluids after 500 miles since it will clean out all the crap sitting in the engine.. and also i got a waterpump sitting around brand new that iam gonna swap in.. already changed the timing belt when i did the swap so no need to go there.
