Default Easiest/Best tranny for 2jz-gte swap

Ok, ive done a lot of searching, but im still a little lost. Whats the easiest and best manual trans to use for the 2jz-gte swap? I read that the w58 wont handle more than 400 hp, so that wont work for me. The 6spd seems to require a swap out of the rear end, which id rather not do. Enlighten me please!!! Thanks guys.

really? Ive been reading that the r154 is stronger and has better gear ratios for street/racing. Just needs slight modification right?

For lower speeds, the automatic Supras TT are faster than the manual TT ones

I'd say this is only true in a high-horsepower application from a dead stop.

I think the best transmission is the GETRAG 6-speed transmission without a doubt. It can handle tons of ponies. The gear ratios are gnarly for some speed trials. Forget street racing. You dont even need to get a good launch and you'll still kill your opponent. Do you have a 2JZ-GTE? If so, stick with the GETRAG. The 5-speed is pretty cool too. The thing I like about the R154 5-Speed is that you dont have to spend as much as the GETRAG 6-speed to get it into your car. The gear ratios are pretty ok too. They arent as wide as the GETRAGs but they can still do some damage. The thing I hear about these is just that they begin to show signs of damage at about 500rwhp. So a rebuild might be necessary and that is pretty expensive. Automatic transmissions on turbo cars? I dont think that is a good idea. Your gearbox will turn to slush. I dont think you can push over 400rwhp on a stock automatic tranny without having problems. However, if it is a built automatic then yeah they help Supras run pretty good numbers at the track. But they are really expensive. Its like as much as another 2JZ.

So basically if I had the money..get a GETRAG 6-speed
..If im on a tight budget, get a R154 5-speed

all i have to say is no matter what you choose, you have to pay to play. nothing is exactly cheap on these cars. Auto trannies are nice and easy to drive and with mods to the stocker's can handle a ton of power reliably. Gm auto trannies are also a great choice if you are looking to make a ton of power and drag the car. The r154 works very well as the gears are decently long enough to utilize top end power and dont have problems holding a lot of power if in good shape. the 6 speed is what it is. its made for the gte and will probably prove to be your best bet if you can afford it.

just really depends on how much you want to spend and what is your power goal ,a w58 is a o.k. tranny for about 300 to the wheels daily driven but it all depends how you treat it and being turbo means alot of fun. a r154 can handle alot of power without a problem depending on how the condition is but it is a cheaper alternative to the getrag but not is strong as the getrag by far this tranny is the best tranny you can get thats bolt's up there's a reason why people pay so much for them just depends how much you want to spends and your powers goals. its really simple math

more power = more money

not so much power = less money

good luck man

wtf are you talking about?? as long as the auto can hold the power, and most RWD trannies can...its the way to go. and even if your looking to make big hp, its not hard to get a mild build on the supra auto or a GM tranny to hold it. automatic trannies hold boost pressure up a lot better than manuals.

GM TH400 with a shift kit is the way to go.
