Default 3s-gte

hey was up guy's, just qurious has any one ever tryed puting a 3S-GTE wich is the MR2 turbo motor into an SC. i was looking at it they sell alot of mods for that motor so making power wouldent be that hard, an not to mention it would weigh less than the 1UZ-FE an the 2JZ so if it could be done with out to much of a head ache i think it would come off prettie nice, i got the idea from the TOP SECRET SUPRA. an the SIGNAL 350Z if the supra they put a 3S-GTE instead of the 2JZ-GTE an on the Z they put an SR20-DET wich is also a 4 cylinder instead of the 3.5 V6. so im just looking for some feed back on what you guys think thanks.

you should be the first go for it ! you could have 400-500 HP reliably if you build it right

I would give you props for originality, but I think that would be WAAAAY to much custom work to make it worth your time and money. And I would never consider dropping in a 2.0L motor into a bigass car like the SC.

There are plenty of mods available if you stick with the 1JZ/2JZ motors

i was thinking about that, saw a supra with the 3s motor. seems pretty doable, plus its a light weight engine compared to the 2j. good luck

This is a great mod if you have a budget into the hundreds of thousands, race the car track-only at high revs and sport serious weight reduction mods.

On the street, on a stock body production car, you will hate yourself.

It's a great engine tho. I had one in my Celica.

3sgte parts are expensive. i use to own a mr2 and i find out that good parts are hard to find and its expensive. also to do this conversion would take a lot of time and money. especially when it comes from a mid engine rwd car.

on a street car? prolly not a good idea

on a race car? hell yea.... better power to weight ratio, better front to rear weight ratio... hell the JGTC 250 (or was it 300) class Supra uses it.

might wanna check on the curb weights of those cars before you think its "ok"

both the supra and 350z that you mention that have the 2L 4bangers are RACE CARS... very a very low curb weight compared the stock...
the torqueless motors wouldnt make enough low-end power to lug the big SC300 around... an SC300 loaded up weighs about 3700-3800lbs... not 2500 or 2700lbs...

any 4cyl unless its a very large one, would be a very poor choice of motor... why put all that money into a 3s-gte when you could put less into it for a 1jz swap (and make more power) or a 2jz swap or a NA-T conversion...

Hope this is a joke since BoostLogic bolton turbokits for the 2jzs make 400-500whp with plenty of reliability (and about 1/3 the cost)

actually yea i was looking at alot of weight reduction mods, there was a thread about weight reduction, an between that an just the fact that i want to be different i was like hmm...i wonder. Because i just bought another SC so i want to do someting crazy with the other one, an in terms of the other swaps they are great but! for one, to get parts for the ijz is a mission as i have been told by many, an the 2jz swap coast about 7-8 grand to be done right. An my thing is this, if im gona spend 7-8 grand on my car i dont want to be like the other guy, i went out today an i found a shop that said they could put in the motor working for about $3500-4000 an i can get that motor for about $1500. i just want to be different!!!

1st off, our cars are not FWD! this motor is used in an MR car, and has been swaped into Celica & Corolla's with semi-ease, but they are FWD cars. So have fun trying to fab. something out there and if your payign to have it done with will cost $15,000+. Also, these are great motors b/c they are stong and rev happy, but they are torque-less compared to the I-6's and our cars are heavy pigs. Here is something I learned a while ago and live by it, its 4 letters, K.I.S.S, Keep It Simple Stupid! This would be a pointless swap, look into a 1JZ, 2JZGTE, or NA-T if your looking for boost and power.
