I think, if he is like most of us when we didn't know, he wants rid of the dildomatic for the gated shifter.
But does the tranny bolt up the non VVTi engine?
Me and Johnny (Dx3) Were wonderin' one day and never really put any thought or research into it.

yea i always wondered why it was so hard... i mean the gated shifters in the 98+ sc3's had the same 4 speed auto as the non vvti 400s... someone clarify me on this? also what about the gated shifters on the 95-96 LS4. there were pre vvti also but still came with a 4 speed gated shifter.

Hell, I'd almost be willing to get an 93-97 SC and try it out someday,,,,
I mean if everything was plug and play with wiring harnesses and what not, and a simple dash swap,,,, why not?

My question is...
1. Where is the Traction Control button on the newer console?
2. If I were going to swap in a built tranny, could I bolt up a tranny with the gated shifter?
3. Which tranny and from which cars should I search to find one?
I liked chrisman's idea of a built up auto for the SC400. Seems much more feasible than trying to make a manual SC400. So I might buy another tranny to have built up, and if I could get a gated one...

I think you turn of traction by pulling a fuse / turning on ECT power

From what I understand, it's the same tranny. As far as how they do a gated shifter as opposed to the 92-97 'push the button' one, I'm not sure.
The traction control button on the 98 and up is under the dash, by the trunk/fuel release doors. There is a transmission control button where the old heated seats buttons are, and the heated seats buttons are moved over to the right.
