Can a cut out harm this car in any way is it a good idea so that i can have the best of both worlds? I like my car to be quiet, but is a v8 and i would like to be able to open it up every once in a while. Since this car is OBD1 i would think you wouldnt have many problems if you ran on after the headers with even maybe a glass pack for back pressure. Well if anyone has one or knows if they work well on the 400's let me know thanks...

For the gains you will see its probably not worth the effort. They tend to leak all the time and you need two which by the time you figure cost of parts and the time to install them you could of just improved the exhaust in other ways. Open header V8's do sound cool though.

I helped a friend install one of the electric cut outs on his Trans Am and it doesn't leak at all. Prior to the electric one, he had one that was a manual type. You had to undo 3 wing nuts on a plate and wamo...you had a nascar exhaust. The manual one never leaked at all. If you want the electric one to be just as reliable i would suggest buying one of the good ones. I think there are like 3 types, and they increase in price...the more expensive the better. He saw about a 3 tenth gain in the quarter with his car. He has a very large cam, headers, no cat, and some suspension stuff.

I think it's pretty cool.
Have a manual one on my sister's V6 Camaro.
I put it after the high-flow cat so it doesn't smell like ***.
Idle and anything below 2000 RPM sounds mean as hell.
Above 2000 RPM it's just really loud and not too "throaty"
Really fun crusing around though.
Set off each and every car alarm and the interior of the car vibrate, giving you a nice massage.

I ran open downpipe on my SC3 when I was taking the car to the shop to get the rest of my exhaust hooked up.
It wasn't obnoxiously loud at idle and I never opened it up because the IC pipes weren't yet connected but the sound was interesting.
Give it a try and let us know if you like it.

yes i was planning on electrics and they dont leak at all if they even did you can make a seal with red high temp silicone... I dont care about anything except if its going to hurt the car. I odnt care about price or this or that.....

I have thought about adding one- sure would be fun- just dont think your going to see amazing gains from it... (except for the fun of surprising people with a really loud exhaust from a SC. If I were you, I would put them right after the headers, before the first set of cats.

Im not looking for gains, im going for the wow factor ever once and a while. I had greddy evos on my accord v6 and i just want to keep this exhaust quiet for those highway trips. My only concern is if i put it to close to the o2 sensor will it lean out or anything crazy?

Somebody correct me if i'm wrong, but if its OBDI i think that you would be fine. No leaning out or codes or anything.....you could put it behind the middle cat if you wanted to be sure. That would prolly lessen the WOW factor though.

if you have a exhaust cut out wouldn't this be better than any 4 inch exhaust if u had turbo?

yeah but you would probably get alot of snap crackel pop compared to NA...

it would sound mean but it's kinda pricey at almost $400 for the dual.

i can get 2 for $210 and there better the butterflys are tig welded instead of screwed on....

I'm planning to put the 3" qtec one on the car after my swap. I'll let you know where/how it's being mounted. I'd probably have to cut up my downpipe to put on the y-pipe.
