Default Weird loud FAN noise at idle..what the heck?

I was on a REALLY important date tonight..and all of a sudden I hard this loud roar from my car's engine bay..like a whining FAN noise at idle..it was loud.

Could that be the spark plugs? I remember a noise like that before.
but wondering any of you guys had the noise. The car is driveable..the check engine light did not
go on...so it doesn't seem too bad.

Man..this and also my commuter civic overheated. I am paying through the nose THIS month

Yeah I've got a noise similar to that... seems like a hissing or whirring noise coming from the front of the engine (so maybe intercooler hoses or what not)... dunno... I'll have to check it out.

It's probably your tensioner. The SC4 has no fan belt - it's hydraulically driven and is normally VERY quiet. I haven't heard of a hydraulic fan pump going bad. Check your fan fluid resevoir. If it turns out you need a tensioner, I'll get you the Dayco P/N. Also it could be your P/S pump?

If you're worried, take it to the dealer, have them isolate the problem, pay them for the diagnostic fee. Then go out and source your parts accordingly and do the work yourself - if you're mechanically inclined. The noise you described could be anything from a bad bearing in the alternator or a/c compressor, to a cheap bearing in the idler pulley.

It should be driveable, but I'd get it looked at ASAP, as you wouldn't want to get stranded somewhere.

The SC3 has a mechanical fan - the SC4 is a hydraulic fan...

Default ME TOO

Yes, I just got my car back from the shop today. The tech told me that my hydraulic fan's coolant pump is leaking... he said the last few times in the shop they had to add some fluid to the resovior, but did'nt think much of it, but now the leak is aparent. He says I'll need a new pump and says the part would cost around $300 or so,

My question is, is there a rebuilding kit for the pump, or does anyone happen to have a good pump from a wrecked SC400?

EDIT: THE PART I NEED IS THE FAN CLUTCH. THAT WAS THE PART DESCRIBED, THE REST OF THE PUMP ASSEMBLY IS OK.

Default Found out what it was

It was one of the bearings that pull the drive belt. IT was old and worn out and was making a LOT of noise at idle. The other hollow noise I complained about ..turned out to be my very FREE flowing Weapon-R sponge intake.

I think I'll ahve to live w/the noise of that last one.
Also my engine started vibrating because my ingition was having problems too..it wasn't connecting very well

All in all..I had a major service done (fluids, belts, tranny, etc, filters, etc) and let's just say I could've bought a mini bike for that...but it was worth it. The car is fine again.

Also I found out the loud tire noise and stuff is caused by my yokohama DB tires and also my really low tein HA's.causing me some camber problems.

Are there camber kits for our cars?

Ok then glad everyone else is all set...

But does anyone have a working fan clutch available for sale? (just the motor-like thing attached to the fan, not the blades)

Glad you solved your problem. Do you know exactly which bearing it was? This may help those with the same problem in the future.
